Operating Era: 1922-1956.
Union Pacific, New York Central.
Now comes with correct RR design underframe - double center sill.
Successor to the A-50-4 (see our kit series 1100), the A-50-6 incorporated numerous changes
while retaining a similar appearance. The cars had peaked roofs rather than radial, a small A
end
lumber door and did away with the stringer pockets. UP ordered 1,000 from Pullman in 1922.
The cars remained the same until Gothic lettering supplanted Roman in 1940. Many ran into the
1950`s. However, about half the fleet was converted to box cars beginning in 1934 (see kit series
5900). During WWII 100 cars were leased to New York Central.
