Operating Era: 1914-1981. THIS SERIES OF KITS NOW COMES WITH OUR NEW ONE-PIECE ROOF FRAME. See also our new Kits in the 4260 Series: Nothern Alberta Railways Fowler stock cars. Canadian National, Canadian Pacific, Northern Alberta Railways. CNR & CPR converted over 5,000 box cars to stock cars between
1919 and 1949. Chosen from various deliveries of the box cars and converted over the decades,
numerous prototypes resulted. We offer 4 K-brake and 4 A B brake versions, covering
1919-1981.
CN made its first conversions in 1923 using 5' door Intercolonial box cars. These had 4-brace
ends and wood doors, series 170600. The cars were upgraded with AB brakes in the 1940's and
ran as long as 1976. Our kit covers all K-brake versions and by detail substitution from other kits
the life of the car.
CP converted 1,900 5'-door box cars in 1919-20. Selected at random from the fleet, there was a
substantial mix of cars. This kit models cars converted from 128000 series cars with 4 end
braces and poling pockets. Upgraded with AB brakes in the 1940's, they lasted into 1981. Our
kit covers all K-brake versions and by detail substitution from other kits, the life of the car.
NAR purchased and converted 30 CP Box cars into stock cars 1951-1953. These were used as stock cars into the early 1970's, then converted into Material cars and used into the 1980's. NAR stock cars differ from CP stock cars in many ways and also differ from each other due to various modifications over the years. See Kits 4261 through 4271.
