WESTERFIELD MODELS, LLC. GOLDEN AGE LINE |

Operating Era: 1925-1970.
Now includes our One-Piece Roof Frame.
Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul & Pacific. The Milwaukee Road ordered 1,500 36' drop bottom stock cars in 1925 and another 500 in 1927.
Except for minor details they were identical. The cars had four emergency doors in the floor, a
somwhat smaller copy of the railroad's GS gondola delivered beginning in 1922 (see our kit 2501).
It is probable that the cars were intended for secondary service carrying coke, although we have
no proof they actually did so. The 1925 cars were in 2 series: 102505-103004, 500 cars built by
Illinois Car Co. and 103005-104004, 1,000 cars built by Standard Steel Car Co. All had ventilated
ends by virue of a single slat missing near the roof. The 1927 cars were in series 104007-104506,
built by Bettendorf. These had solid ends and jacking pads/towing staples. The cars went
through four lettering styles while running well into the 1960's before their numbers diminished.
The last cars ran until 1973. These were the largest and longest running class of stock cars on
the railroad. |
