Operating Era: 1920-1965. Pacific Fruit Express, Western Pacific.
Now includes our one-piece roof frame.
. In 1920 Pacific Fruit Express redesigned its basic car to include a higher door and steel roof.
The latter required non-skid black paint and hatch platforms. The single-beam center sill was
retained because of scarcity of the new double-beam Bettendorf underframe being applied to the
simultaneously built R-30-13 which was otherwise identical. Almost 12,000 R-30-12 cars were
built and lasted through rebuilds well into the 1960's.
