Operating Era: 1911-1973. Union Refrigerator Transit Co., Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul & Pacific. In 1927 URTC repainted many of the cars into short series of consumer product billboards.
Walthers has reissued 10 ot these sets especially to go on these kits. Some may still be available at larger hobby shops. In 1931 125 cars were assigned to Mars Candy under MWEX reporting marks. Two of
the Mars cars are among the Walthers decals.
Banana traffic from Gulf ports to Northern cities was a major business from the 1900's on.
Thousands of cars from private car companies were leased for this purpose. The type Ic cars were
probably leased for 10 years; type II cars replaced them in the late 1920's.
Historically, the bulk of URTC's cars were leased to the Milwaukee Road. When the banana
trade
lease ran out in the late 1920's, many cars were given consumer product billboards (see kit
2600).
The remainder were leased to MILW, using CMP&P lettering of the period. Our decal set
matches the prototype lettering exactly with the correct dimensional data.
THIS SERIES OF KITS NOW COMES WITH OUR ONE-PIECE ROOF FRAME.
