Operating Era: 1907-1965. Pennsylvania RR. A stretched version of the GR gon, the GRA was initiated by the PRR in 1907. By the time deliveries were completed in 1916, over 14,000 GRA`s ran the rails. Of these, about 1/3 were delivered without safety appliances and ran contemporaneously with safety appliance cars for over a decade. During the 1940`s all GRA`s received AB brakes and end-of-side stiffeners. These were steel plates riveted between the first and second side stakes at the ends.
